Support Groups

There are currently two support groups:  HNRNPH2 Mutations, which is available to anyone, and HNRNPH2 Parents Unite.  This is a parent support group that is exclusive to parents of those diagnosed with HNRNPH2 genetic variation, an inviting and supportive group where you can share your experiences, challenges, and accomplishments!  To join one of these support groups, contact us at projectybr@gmail.com.

Resources for information on other conditions resulting from HNRNPH2

Autism Speaks is a non-profit organization which provides information and support to individuals on the Autism spectrum.

The Pediatric Cortical Visual Impairment Society provides information on cortical visual impairment and interventions to improve functional vision.

The Epilepsy Foundation provides information on seizures, how to live with seizures, and seizure first aid.

UK

SEND (children with Special Education Needs & Disabilities) is a program in the UK to develop an education, health, and care (EHC) plan for children and young people up to age 25 who need more support than is available through special educational needs support. EHC plans identify educational, health, and social needs and set out the additional support to meet those needs.
DLA
(Disability Living Allowance for Children) is a program in the UK which may help with the extra costs associated with caring for a child under the age of 16 and who has difficulties walking or needs much more care than a child of the same age who does not have a disability and meets all other eligibility requirements.

ISRAEL

KOL ZCHUT provides a broad informative guide for children with special needs in the school and health system in Israel.

USA

Special Needs Answers

The Academy of Special Needs Planners consists of special needs planning professionals such as attorneys, financial planners, and trust officers that assist them in providing service and advice to special needs individuals and to their families.

Medicaid Waiver Programs

Each state in the USA has a medicaid waiver program for which services are needs based.  These programs can assist with medical co-pays, medical equipment, and in some cases in-home assistance.  Each state's program is different; for example, the program is funded through TEFRA/Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver in the state of Georgia and through OPWDD in the state of New York.  To find the program available in your state, visit Medicaid's State Resource Center to find these and other programs that you may be eligible for in your state.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) IDEA is a law enacted in the USA in 1975, ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the country. IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education, and related services to infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities who are eligible. Infants and toddlers with disabilities (birth-2) and their families receive early intervention services under IDEA Part C. Children and youth (ages 3-21) receive special education and related services under IDEA Part B.
