PUBLICATIONS

This ultra-rare disorder, caused by variations on the HNRNPH2 gene, was first identified by Drs. Jennifer Bain and Wendy Chung, who published the first paper on the disorder in the American Journal of Human Genetics in September 2016. Since then, there are several other publications which can be found on our Publications Page by clicking on the following link:

Support Groups

There are currently three support groups:  HNRNPH2 Mutations, a community for discussing patients with mutations in the HNRNPH2 geneHNRNPH2 Parents Unite, a parent support group that is exclusive to parents of those diagnosed with HNRNPH2 genetic variation, an inviting and supportive group where you can share your experiences, challenges, and accomplishments, and HNRNPH2 Grandparents Group, a group for the Grandparents of children who have been diagnosed with rare HNRNPH2 mutationsThese groups are all private.  To join one of these support groups, contact us at projectybr@gmail.com.

HNRNPH2 Patient Registry

The YBRP, in partnership with Matrix and COMBINEDBrain, has created a customized health information portal for HNRNPH-Related Disorder patients and caregivers to easily capture, track and share information related to symptoms, activities, medications, and electronic health records. Patients and caregivers from around the world can enroll online and create an account in the Matrix portal. Once enrolled, you can begin taking surveys and entering information about the patient’s HNRNPH2- Related Disorder experiences.  Click here for a Quick Start Guide on how to enroll.

UK

SEND (children with Special Education Needs & Disabilities) is a program in the UK to develop an education, health, and care (EHC) plan for children and young people up to age 25 who need more support than is available through special educational needs support. EHC plans identify educational, health, and social needs and set out the additional support to meet those needs.
DLA
(Disability Living Allowance for Children) is a program in the UK which may help with the extra costs associated with caring for a child under the age of 16 and who has difficulties walking or needs much more care than a child of the same age who does not have a disability and meets all other eligibility requirements.

Special Needs Answers

The Academy of Special Needs Planners consists of special needs planning professionals such as attorneys, financial planners, and trust officers that assist them in providing service and advice to special needs individuals and to their families.

Medicaid Waiver Programs

Each state in the USA has a medicaid waiver program for which services are needs based.  These programs can assist with medical co-pays, medical equipment, and in some cases in-home assistance.  Each state's program is different; for example, the program is funded through TEFRA/Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver in the state of Georgia and through OPWDD in the state of New York.  To find the program available in your state, visit Medicaid's State Resource Center to find these and other programs that you may be eligible for in your state.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) IDEA is a law enacted in the USA in 1975, ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the country. IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education, and related services to infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities who are eligible. Infants and toddlers with disabilities (birth-2) and their families receive early intervention services under IDEA Part C. Children and youth (ages 3-21) receive special education and related services under IDEA Part B.
